Can I ask where the title 'Regular Lovers' comes from? The color pics are so graphic, indulgent and sentimental to me, I love it.

Hey Nate: "Regular Lovers" is the title of one of my favorite recent-ish B/W films by Nico's former lover, Philippe Garrel, whose son you may of heard of, Louis Garrel, who played the brother of Eva Green in Bertolucci's "The Dreamers." If ever you view "Regular Lovers," there's a GREAT dancing scene at a club, where the couples & boys and girls dance in a trance to a Kinks song: fantastic! The film is based in the late 60s, when Philippe Garrel was a young & dreamy artiste.

That's Nico of the "Velvet Underground" I'm mentioning, by the way...

Philippe Garel, now an elder director, shoots B/W in a style related to mine. He's an influence on where my head is at currently. His B/W is soulful and extremely varied, depending on whether he's filming indoors or outdoors.

In case this interests you, in my sequencing over the last few months, sometimes I'm drawing on my earliest work, which was done almost exclusively in color during the 90s (the voluptuous beauty in the bathtub, for instance). I know you're particularly attached to Color, and in choosing the "Regular Lovers" title, after much meditation over the sequence I ditched my original title, and spontaneously came up with "Regular Lovers," which to my mind was the more appropriate title, because my particular picture choices made me think about how the different girls in the LNF selection, were simply being themselves, however outrageous, these were "regular lovers" to my mind. In Garrel's film, everyone is beautiful, but in radically different ways, which is one of the subtexts of my own work.

So if some of the images feel "sentimental," it's a good thing. I wish I could induce that feeling more often; it's definitely a goal...
